Is your organization (department, team, or family) a quality organization, or is it a group of people with a few things in common?

It is obvious that your success is dependent on your customer’s success, be they internal or external. Do you understand your customer’s current and future needs? Do you meet their requirements and exceed their expectations?

Is your leadership team on the same page, not only those in the executive suite but every leader, from frontline supervisors to board members? Are they all clear on the purpose and direction of the organization, and are they effective at enrolling each other and talented individual contributors toward those goals?

The people in the organization create the “culture” of an organization. You can not lay off a significant percentage of them and expect to maintain the same “vibe.” Are the people of your organization involved and engaged, trusted and valued, or are they looking for a way out?

Do you establish and follow a process to achieve the organization’s goals, and are you effective in managing those various processes, or do you wing it and reinvent the wheel each time?

Do you look for ways to make improvements, or do you follow more of a wait-and-see approach?

Do you make sound decisions based on facts and thoughtful analysis, or do you rely on the whim and emotion of the organization’s senior or most loud members?

How well do you get along with your vendors, suppliers, and other service providers? Is it harmonious and beneficial based on values alignment, or do you bite your tongue, grin and bare them because they have the lowest cost or an unfair highly-leveraged connection with a well-placed decision maker in your organization?

Reflect on your answers to help you create a game plan to upgrade the organization’s quality or, if necessary, plan your escape.

Daily Focus

  • List 10 actions you need to do that will bring you closer to your goal.
  • Brainstorm 10 ideas to improve a problem you’re facing.
  • Give 10 compliments to other people.
  • List 10 things you’re grateful for.

Do this every day for a week.

  • You’ll be 70 steps closer to your goal.
  • You’ll have 70 ideas (14 of them will be pretty good, and you only need one.)
  • You’ll take the focus off yourself 70 times.
  • You’ll find yourself surrounded by gratitude.

Keep using your electronic devices to stay on schedule. Use the Focus Journal to stay on purpose.
